LEGO Kids Fest

This morning I took the older two to Reliant Center for the LEGO Kids Fest!! {Daddy was not able to join us, so Aunt Alisha filled in for him.} I'm not sure if they this here in Houston in years past, but this was the first time I had ever heard of it and it was super fun! I actually had flashbacks to Disney World at one point. Ha!! We rushed in and took pictures with Lego characters, then we headed to get in line for a Chima activity and I stayed there while Alisha took the kids to a Star Wars exhibit.  Alisha and I were texting back and forth at one point to bring the kids back because I was getting close the front of the line, I had to life the kids over the rail to get in line with me...my adrenaline was pumping!! :)  I live for this!

In short, the exhibit hall had numerous Lego activities set-up for you to do.  Most of the booths/areas/sections were hands-on and allowed you to get in there and build, which the kids loved! A couple of them had you sit down and listen to how to build/construct or how an idea came about.  It was great.  Basically any area of Lego (i.e. Lego City, Star Wars, Chima, Friends, etc.) was there for you to take part in.

The kids got to participate in a Chima Speedorz Challenge.  They had 30 seconds to make all of their Speedorz travel through the obstacles in front of them.  It took them nearly the entire 30 seconds to figure out what to do, but they each were given a set to take home to practice on, which was very cool.  I think that same set is sold for around $15.

After that we watched teams work together to build a bridge and then it was later tested to see if it was strong enough to hold it's own weight and additional weight.  We decided to wait around and let the kids get in line to become part of a team to build one. {Sorry to the lady below...this was the only decent shot I got of the Alisha and the kids and you appear to be scratching your nose.}

Some footage of their team building their bridge!

And here is Allyson doing her own thing!! Haha!

And here is their bridge getting put to the test!!

Lego Friends...Legos that are made for girls!!  Allyson has grown to love them!!

The kids built their own vehicle and raced them down the steep street.

Next, we met up with some friends!!!  The kids were super excited to see each other!

And before leaving, we took a few more pictures!

Lastly, here are the my two pirates posing for the camera back at the house.  With the help of some grandparents, they were able to buy some pretty cool things from the Lego Kids Fest!

Food chain

See this cute little bird? This was taken yesterday in our backyard. He was just hiding out in our peach tree.

Today I was watering the garden and I saw this same little bird hopping around; he couldn't fly. Ally was in the garden with me and she was watching him hop, it was too cute! Then he got out of the garden though our makeshift gate. The dogs were out, so I started to panic a little and I told Jase to go over by the bird so the dogs would not get him. It wasn't 15 seconds later and here comes Hank, he spotted it! I started yelling "no Hankie no!" I was trying to hold it somewhat together since my kids were watching me and I didn't want to make too big of a scene. But Hank just took that bird and that was that. :(  {On a side note we have been giving Hank medicine a few times a week because he is on his last leg. He has a herniated disc in his back and gets to where he cannot walk at times. Pain meds one day and killing birds the next!}

A few minutes later the kids were swinging and Jase tells me "it's ok Mom. That's how God designed it. It's the food chain. Birds eat worms and dogs eat birds." He is a pretty emotional kid at times, so I was a little surprised (in a good way) by his answer. I mean I probably could have shed a tear, but I said "you're right Jase."

Later we came inside and Jase went upstairs and got two books and brought them to me. They were pictures of animals eating each other. He was explaining the food chain and telling me that lions are on top. ;) Just love this kid!

Frenchy

During last night's game, Jase slid into 3rd base and the ball was thrown and hit him square in the mouth. While he cried, he was quite the trooper and ended up staying on the base and scored shortly after that! We got some ice for him and I tended to him for a few minutes in the dugout. My sis got a few shots of us! :)

This morning his lip was a little swollen and you could actually see some red marks above his lip from the stitches on the ball, but for the most part he was A-ok!

After our game tonight, Finn put on Jase's "Frenchy" baseball hat, so we all ended up doing it!

And look at this doll! Just love her to bits!

It's hard to believe that we are wrapping up baseball within the next week.  While we have been going strong  with practice since February, it just doesn't feel like it should be over.  Jase has done a great job this season and we are so proud of him!

Happy Mother's Day

This morning the kiddos and Shawn surprised me with a Mother's Day craft. I absolutely love it and will cherish it forever. It is hard to believe that my first born son's footprints barely fit on the canvas. My baby is not a baby anymore.

When I first started pinning things on Pinterest, Shawn would give me a hard time and thought that site was merely for women. After I saw my gift I asked him if this was a Pinterest idea. He smiled and said that it was a google search, but google led him to someone else's pin!!! Uh huh!!

Also part of my Mother's Day gift are a couple of projects we have underway: a farmhouse table and a headboard from reclaimed wood. Both are ideas inspired from Pinterest! Needless to say that Shawn has become rather familiar with Pinterest lately! ;-) I can't wait to finish them up!

First Swim

The weather was so nice and warm today, Daddy decided to get out the pool for the kids to play in. I got Finn all suited up in his trunks and lathered with sunscreen and put him in! He LOVES it!! We are looking forward to summer! :-)

May the fourth

"May the Fourth be with you!" In celebration of Star Wars Day, we decided to take part in some SW activities today. Jase and Daddy started putting together a new Star Wars Lego set that he got for his birthday: Jabba's Palace. We worked on it again this evening after dinner, but still have a bit more to go.

After baths were said and done with, we began watching Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. We enjoyed our Star Wars day!

Boot camp?

So this morning, as I was lying in bed I was browsing Groupon, which has become a hotspot for me lately! Love me some good deals!! Anyway, I came across one I had seen a while back for a boot camp. It was super cheap and only a few miles away. After making sure this would fit into our schedule, I bought it!!

Around 11:00 this morning I started thinking "What did I do? Why did I sign up for this?" I'm ready to get in shape and get back down to my prepregnancy weight, so I thought this might be a good jump start for me.

I printed out my forms and arrived 10 mins early to make sure I knew where I was going. I asked a few friends to do it with me, but no takers! As I pull up I notice EVERYONE has a yoga mat and weights!! Yikes, I didn't read that fine print! I got out and spoke to the trainer and he said I will need 3 things each class: weights, water and a mat. I'm 1 for 3! He asked if I have been working out and I should have replied "does it look like it?", but I politely said no. He told me then I would probably need 5 lb hand weights. {I'm sure I have a pair around the house from one of my midnight infomercial purchases!}

I get a spot and try to make small talk...totally felt like the first day of college at San Jac, except everyone else knew someone and I didn't! Ha! I watched 2 other new girls walk up without mats and weights so I felt better! I overheard his convo with one of the girls (and she was tiny) and he told her she probably needed 7-8 lb weights. What's up with that?!? You don't think this big girl can handle 7-8 lb weights? ;-) She must have answered "yes" to the workout question.

We were about to start and I find out it is a "legs day", which means I won't be able to walk or sit on the toilet tomorrow! Fun! {Did I mention we live in a two story home?!?} We start 30-60 seconds intervals of lunges, squats, etc and about 5-10 minutes into it I am already thinking "well I just donated my money because I am not coming back!" They don't call it boot camp for no reason!

I kept at it and pushed through to the end. I'm so glad I did and am even looking forward to attending the next session, if I can walk by then that is. The trainer played music during the workout and a couple of songs were from an upbeat Christian artist, Toby Mac, which I thought was cool. And at the end he even prayed. I thought that was awesome as well, his own ministry!

Here goes to getting back on track to eating healthy again and exercising! #icandoit
