Cowboy Boots and Fried Chicken

Jase has western day at school on Wednesday or "rodeo day" as he calls it. This past week he has been telling me that he needed to get boots and a hat so that he could be a cowboy for school on Wednesday. We have been talking about the "partner dance" they have been practicing and today gave me a little preview of the stomp, stomp, kick, kick moves to the dance. So cute.

Well today after lunch we stopped by Cavender's Boot City to check out what they had. We found a pair of boots (Daddy wanted him to get square toe ones) and he liked them. Since they are the most expensive shoes we have EVER bought him we made sure he understood that he was going to be wearing them more often and not just for rodeo day. At first he wasn't so sure about it and told me that he didn't want the boots and that he'd rather go with Mommy to the doctor and see the baby instead of rodeo day. It just melted my heart to hear him think of his little brother or sister in the midst of buying boots. I explained that we were not getting the baby out of Mommy's tummy on Wednesday, but getting to see the baby on a camera and maybe find out if it is a boy or girl. He understood and we were back on with the boots. He wore them to church tonight to break them in and boy was he strutting!! I think he definitely likes them! We did not have any luck with a hat and he realized that he could still be a cowboy without the hat! :-)

Tonight for dinner we picked up Church's Chicken for dinner and brought it back to the house. We rarely buy fried chicken because it can get expensive by the time you add all your sides to your order (and it is probably not the healthiest). I am a veggie person, so I think we ordered 4 sides!! $28 later we were on our way with a hot meal. Jase was not very excited about our dinner selection. I explained that their Mac and cheese was just like Luby's and their biscuits were super good. He said he wanted a meat and cheese sandwich . . . really?!? He ended up having two servings of Mac and cheese, a biscuit and a chicken leg!! Shawn had to show him how to eat it, it was cute. And while eating he was asking all kinds of questions about what part of the chicken it was from and how people used to kill chickens. I mean he was into it. For a minute I thought, he is going to make himself sick while asking all these questions, but he didn't. It dawned on me while eating that this was his first time to ever eat fried chicken!! This called for a picture!

By the time he was done he cleaned that thing to the bone. We actually had to make him stop eating because I think he was starting to chip away at the bone . . . he was into it to say the least!! Shawn said "Cowboy boots and fried chicken, we'll make him a redneck in no time."

And one picture of Sister from last night. I made corn on the cob and she ate two of them! She is definitely a fan!!
