First Fruits

This morning when I went out to the garden to water, I noticed that we have our first fruits!! Between the two large red tomato plants, we have 9 tomatoes growing!! Although I am not a tomato eater, I was very excited to see this.  I have to admit, I almost immediately started thinking of making homemade salsa! :-)  Yummy!

We also have a Satsuma Mandarin tree (I'm pretty sure that's what it is) that producing fruit about a week ago.  All 4 of us love oranges, so I'm hoping this tree will be a big hit at the French house.

My baby boy turns 5

Today (4/28) was Jase's 5th birthday.  I still remember being pregnant with him and he is the reason I started blogging in the first place: to record memories.  I started my first blog in March 2007 while I was pregnant with Jase.  My oh my how time flies.  I wouldn't trade one moment with my kids for anything; they are a blessing from the Lord for sure.  Here are some pictures of our little man.

1 year old pictures of Jase - 2008
Last night Shawn and I stayed up pretty late trying to get a head start on prepping for the party today.  Shawn put together a life size cut-out of Darth Vader . . . Jase had no idea I had bought it.  Yoda was my first choice, but he was sold out on-line, so I went with the villain!  Kind of as a joke, Shawn put Vader at the bottom of the stairs so Jase would see him first thing when he came out of his room.  Well, this morning I hear Jase get out of his bed (I'm a light sleeper) and hear Jase say in a scared voice "why is Darth Vader at the bottom of the stairs?" I immediately responded with "he is paper baby, it's ok."  In hindsight, probably not the best way to wake up on your birthday! Haha!!

After we all woke up and got around, we gave Jase our present.  On a trip to Walmart with Shawn, Jase had spotted a specific Lego set that he wanted (Luke's Landspeeder), so we made sure he got that one! His bible (a small one with only the New Testament in it) has been missing lately, so last week I was talking to him about getting a new one and asked if he wanted a big one like Mommy and Daddy's or another small one and he said big one.  Big Bible it is! And of course we find his bible in a chair in our bedroom while cleaning up.  Maybe we should do that more often, than just before a party!! ;-/  While purchasing his bible, I also found this cool National Geographic animal book on sale and knew he would like it.  His gift from Allyson was a Yoda stuffed animal and he loved it! Actually I think she loves it just as much.  After he opened it, she took Yoda over and served him tea, gave him a bottle and she laid him down for a nap and told me "shhh, Yoda is sleeping!" Not sure if we'll have to buy her one or not!!

Later this afternoon, we had all of Jase's friends over for his Lego Star Wars party and I think it went great.  All of the kids seemed to have fun and that was the goal! Here is a preview of the pictures.  I'll have to do a full party post in a few days.

After baths Shawn and Jase sat on the couch and put together one of the Lego SW sets he received today.  I love seeing them work together and had to take a picture.  And just as they were about to walk up the stairs, a lightsaber duel broke out.  I love these moments! Happy birthday, Boo-Boo! Mommy and Daddy love you dearly.

What was I thinking?

So I already knew that I would be sending Jase to school today with cookies to share with his class since tomorrow is his 5th birthday (sniff, sniff). Then I decided that I would make cookies for his baseball team for last night's game as well.

I loaded the kids up in the car yesterday and we headed to Hobby Lobby. Jase picked out multi-colored star sprinkles for the cookies . . . not sure if he had Star Wars on the brain, but I connected the two right away! Haha!!

After we got home and ate lunch, I started baking the cookies, all 4 dozen of them. I did cut a corner and bought the Pillsbury precut sugar cookies. Then I made a glaze for the cookies, so the stars would stick. Milk and powdered sugar . . . so easy and tasty as well. Start off with 1 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and then add 3 tablespoons of milk and mix with a spoon/fork. I ended up having to add another T of milk.

I start looking at the clock and realize that it is well past 4:00 pm and we have a game at 7:15 and we like to leave around 6:10 to get up there in plenty of time. Jase is not ready for the game yet, Ally is still napping, I'm not ready, cookies haven't even been iced or "starred" yet, and cookies are still baking. At this point I started asking myself "what was I thinking?"

I iced the first dozen and thought they were cute, but also thought a dozen of those super soft and oh so yummy cookies from Walmart would have been just fine. The kids would probably not even have known the difference.

As if time was not a factor, I got out my crinkle paper, clear goodie bags and curling ribbon and prepped 11 bags for his team. Again, the thought "what are you thinking?" crossed my mind. The finished product came together nicely and I hope the boys enjoyed them! They ended up getting a triple snack because it was another boy's birthday, so they brought cupcakes plus the normal snack. But they deserved it after last night's game because they played great!!! Jase hit a home run and caught his first ball at first base for an out . . . it was awesome!!! I know it's not all about winning, but you could just tell the boys were so happy. And honestly, after 2 losses this week, if felt good to win!!

Back to the cookies.

After I finished packaging all the cookies and while I was cleaning up, I thought again about biting off more than I could chew, but then realized that I would do it all over again, because I was doing it for my baby boy. I'm really getting emotional as I'm typing this and just thinking about him. That is your sappy warning! Ha!

As I was taking a picture of the cookies he came by and wanted his picture taken too . . . FOR SURE!! I love this little boy to bits! He is so full of life and can always put a smile on my face. He always has a song or a dance up his sleeve. He has a heart for Jesus and can remember details like you would not believe. He loves his little sister (he will not stop picking her up lately) and I can't wait until his little brother arrives, I know he will teach him everything. Anything Lego or Star Wars and he is all over it, hence the Lego Star Wars theme for this birthday party! I cannot believe that he will be 5 tomorrow, where did the time go? I just love my little Boo, Boo-Boo, Jase, Jasey, Ja-Ja, Bubby. Thank you, God for giving us this precious gift 5 years ago.

Now if I can just pull it together! I'm blaming it on the pregnancy! ;-)

First popsicles of the season

While I was at Walmart earlier, I bought a little treat for the kids (and me)! Ally hasn't quite figured out the popsicles in the plastic wrapper where you have to push up the flavored ice, so I thought I'd give Blue Bell's sugar free bullets a try.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed them this afternoon and Jase's didn't last very long at all. Allyson's dripped ALL down her hands. Did you know that purple stains skin? Geez! She will be getting a good scrub down in the bath tonight. And yes, that is one of Jase's old bibs on her! Lol!

And do you remember these? Push-ups! I remember they used to be Flintstone Push-ups. I couldn't find those though. To be completely honest I picked these up first and then decided to get the kids the bullets. ;)

DPHS Baseball

Monday night we took the kids to their first hometown DPHS baseball game. And come to think of it, it was our first game to watch since graduating many moons ago. It was really a treat because we knew 4 boys playing. Jase is totally in baseball mode and asked every question under the sun . . . I loved it!! As for Allyson she did ok, but to tell you the truth our phones and snacks kept her preoccupied most of the game. Wish some of these pictures weren't blurry, but had to share anyway.
:-)

Time to Thin Out

The garden that is. I planted way too many seeds and since most of them germinated, it was time to thin them out. I have been reading and if you have too many plants in one area then they can choke each other out. The best way I read to do this is to cut the plants you do not want, off at the soil. Some websites suggested digging all of them up and replanting them all, but I did not want to mess with the root system. I ended up thinning out the cucumbers and squash. I tried to do it with the lettuce, but they are in such small clusters I wasn't sure which plant I was thinning. This was so hard to do since that is the last thing you want to do is cut down plants when all you want to see is everything grow and grow. Hopefully this was the best for the garden.

Also, the weekend before last, Shawn put up a fence around the garden area to keep the dogs out of it. He did a great job on it and it serves its purpose.

Battle of San Jacinto

Today we went to the San Jacinto monument to watch the reenactment of the battle. We've always wanted to come out and watch this, but we either forget or have something else come up.

We came across a petting zoo with goats (babies too) and the kids enjoyed walking around and petting them for a few minutes. Allyson had to bring her baby and baby bottle and it was too funny watching the billy goats (baby goats) follow her around . . . they thought she was going to feed them some milk! Haha!
As for the battle reenactment, it was really neat to see all of the Mexicans and Texians in their authentic attire. The poor kiddos were not really fans of the cannons and guns going off. Shawn ended up having to take them far, far away. Poor sister kept telling Shawn she wanted to go to Daddy's truck. I stayed back for a few more minutes and watched the battle. Maybe the kids will enjoy it when they get older.

One mistake that we made is that we ate lunch before coming out. We weren't sure what to expect, but if we ever come again we will know better. They had fajitas, sausage on a stick, funnel cake, corn on the cob, and much much more.

This was such a pivotal battle for the Texians, since the Mexicans were trying to over take our land. We held our ground and defeated the Mexican army. We are very thankful for the sacrifice people have made while fighting for our freedom. May God bless them and their families.

Spring Cleaning

We are about half way through baseball season and everyone at this household is still enjoying it, so that's a good sign. Nearly everyday Jase wants to go outside to practice and if time allows, then we do it! Jase has definitely improved quite a bit this season. He is learning to catch and now realizes that the advice he has been given with hitting can help him and he has started taking it!!

So in the midst of baseball season, planning Jase's birthday party . . . why not have a garage sale too?!? ;-) A little spring cleaning before the baby arrives! The garage sale is scheduled in a couple of weeks. Surprisingly, I have actually made some good strides to get ready for it. I have went through my closet (and cleaned it out), went through the kids playroom, and labeled several items. Hopefully I can continue to do a little each day and I will be prepared.

While cleaning out my closet, I came to my bags and purses . . . this is so a weakness for me. I have always liked bags, any size, it didn't matter. I am actually parting with a few of them and am ok with it! Haha! I subscribe to Vera Bradley's emails and I told Shawn jokingly the other day that I needed to unsubscribe because it is so tempting when I receive those emails. I love bags, patterns and fabric, so Vera's bags/purses are a bad combination for me. ;)

When I switch purses, it is usually last minute and the old one gets tossed in the closet. Well, yesterday when I was cleaning up I went through all of my purses and cleaned them out. There was obviously a common theme in items left behind. 1. Pens and pencils - I have ALWAYS loved school supplies. I remember getting my allowance or some birthday money and I would head straight to the school isle. I would buy Lisa Frank stationary or the latest gel pens. And I am still that way today! 2. Food, mainly little chocolates. It's like I'm going to starve or something! I remember when I was younger, like 4-5 years old, and I came back from my dad's house from spending the weekend with him. I was showing either my mom or my nana the contents of my purse and I pulled out a leftover cheeseburger from McDonald's still in the wrapper. No telling how long it had been there. If I could have only recognized that was the beginning of food and attachment issues! Haha!!

Updated . . .
I was walking into my bedroom and passed Allyson in the living room.  She was moving crayons (school supplies) from one bag to another!! YIKES . . . have I created a monster?

GAG!

One day last week I heard Ally talking up in her bed, so I made my way up the stairs while saying "Is my Princess awake?" I was waiting to hear those 3 little words from my sweet girl "I love you," but instead I got these 3 words: "Mom, I poop!"  Here we go!!

Poop on her sheets, pillow cases, clothes!! GAG!! I had to hold back from gagging! She went straight into the bath and afterwards I cleaned up her she bedding.  Her diaper was still on, so she must have stuck her hands in there.  Yuck!  We have been staying on her lately about keeping her hands out of her diaper!

We have been talking about potty training more lately, but she is not completely ready yet.  Half of the time when I put her on the potty she has nothing to do with it and will want to hold me while she is sitting there.  I plan on making a big push over the summer, when we are home everyday.  I signed her up for 3 year old preschool in the fall and she has to be potty trained for that class, so the pressure is on.

We just finished lunch about an hour ago.  I got the kids cleaned up and they went into the living room to watch a little TV while I sat at the kitchen table to work on some things.  Ally walks up to me holding out her hands and said she pooped.  (She has been getting better at telling us she pooped and to change her.)  Well she had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, so I am HOPING that I did not wipe her hands very well and that brown crusty stuff was peanut butter.  One sniff and I knew...POOP!  This girl!!

As I'm cleaning her up, I tell her again, "do not put your hands in your diaper" and she responds with "it's nasty and yuck?"  She knows what is going on!  I hope this is last of poop issues, either for a while or for good with her.

My Music Man

For the past 2-3 weeks Jase has taken over my iPod Shuffle. It is very small and light so he can carry it anywhere, and the controls are very basic for him to work. He loves to put it on Toby Mac, a Christian artist, and rock out to him.

This morning as we were about to leave to run errands, he took it to another level! He had the Rosetta Stone ear phones with the microphone on it along with the iPod. He thought he was big time!!

Celebration Saturday

Saturday was super busy, but a great day!  We spent most of the day out in Angleton, watching Coby's baseball game and celebrating Lance's 1st birthday and Seth's 10th birthday.

Seth's birthday party was pretty cool; it was at Crocodile Encounter in Angleton.  You started off in a room where they had snakes on display.  I am NOT a snake person!!

After the snake room the guide took us outside to look at a couple pins that house crocodiles and alligators.  Then we went over to an area where they have 16 huge tortoises.  We were able to roam around, touch their shells and feed them . . . it was pretty cool.  Both Allyson and Jase enjoyed this.  I was surprised that Ally was not all that scared of them (except when one of them started walking fast towards her LOL), and Jase was a little more timid, but he loved them just the same.

Next, we saw the alligators, which have a rounded snout.  Here is a pic of one . . . up close and personal!

Then it was onto the crocodiles.  We were able to watch the guide feed some of the crocodiles and that was pretty cool.  He fed them part of a chicken and they just gobbled it up like it was nothing.  Below is a picture of a crocodile while he was getting fed; he just jumped up on the fence!!

And here is a video of a feeding in action!! I'm so glad I was on the other side of the fence!

What a neat birthday party, for the parents and kids!! Happy 10th birthday, Seth!

After that party, we headed back home to clean up for our best friend's Mom's 70th birthday party.  What a great time and celebration it was!  Happy birthday Ms. Carolyn!

Happy Birthday Grandpa Leonard

Friday we spent the evening over at my dad's house, celebrating his 68th birthday!  His birthday was on Saturday, but since our day was already full we decided to go over Friday evening.  We made him a birthday cake and had our own little party for him.  It is always a great time visiting with him and Grandma Cony.

Happy birthday Grandpa Leonard, we love you!

Disney on Ice

Below are a few more pictures of my Princess from Disney on Ice.  While seeing Minnie, Mickey, Donald, and Goofy in between all of the acts was her favorite part, she was still talking about seeing all the princesses today.  Also, a short video clip of her watching Minnie and Mickey skating and talking.

Dare to Dream

My mom took Allyson and I to Dare to Dream: Disney Princesses on Ice tonight. Our little princess was very excited to see the princesses. Of course my mom spoiled her with crowns and trinkets and she loved it!! I have a feeling the wand will "break" or "get lost". Haha! Her favorite part of the night was seeing Minnie Mouse in between the acts!

Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday morning/afternoon we went to the park for lunch and an Easter egg hunt with our Church.  A great time was had by all!

Happy Birthday Austin

On Good Friday we celebrated Austin's 3rd birthday!! This is Shawn's younger brother's son.  All the kids had a great time bouncing and swimming!  I'm glad we could be part of his special day!

Wedding - 03.30.2012

On Friday, March 30th we attended our Pastor's daughter's wedding.  It was in Kyle, Texas and was just beautiful.  Very natural and simple . . . I loved it.  The kids had a great time as they were able to run around outside and enjoy themselves.

In between the wedding ceremony and the reception, Shawn took the kids over to feed some horses that were kept nearby.  I was not up for walking over there . . . I was ready for some AC!  I'm glad he took them and they were able to do this.

The picture is a little blurry since the truck was in motion, but we did not make it very far down the road before Allyson was out.  And it was so cute because she was still holding onto her flowers she had picked.  She loves her flowers! :-)

Resurrection Sunday

What a glorious day!  Resurrection Sunday . . . the reason we, as believers in Christ, have HOPE.  We can celebrate for He is risen (Matthew 28:6)!!  We know that once our life on earth is over, we will have a place to live forever with no more pain or sorrow, and we can hold onto this true promise because Jesus beat death through His resurrection.  Makes me so excited thinking about it and I definitely want everyone to know that this free gift is theirs for the taking as well.

This weekend has been a busy one! Friday we went to a birthday party for Shawn's nephew, yesterday an Easter egg hunt, then a birthday party and this morning was church and then an early dinner at our house.  I am just getting around to downloading pictures and looking at what a fun-filled weekend we had!  This week I'll post pics of our weekend, but below are a few I'll leave you with for now.

Before the pictures though, I have to share this video of Jase retelling Jesus' story of his death, burial and resurrection.  He took my phone upstairs and made a few 10 second videos and then asked me to come up and record him . . . I was honored!  He did such a great job of sharing the story of Jesus and the depth he included.  At 4 years (nearly 5) I am amazed at the details Jase can remember.  Truly blesses my heart that he wants to learn more about Jesus and God's word and is retaining the bible knowledge that he is fed.  The video is about 6 1/2 minutes long, but well worth it!

All About Ally

Every morning when Allyson wakes up, she will stay in her bed and call for me to come and get her.  She won't even get out of her bed.  Earlier this week it was time to get up for school so I turned on the hall light and called for Jase to wake up.  Next thing I know I hear someone sliding downstairs.  I go in the hall and it is Jase and Allyson together.  THIS IS A FIRST!!  I guess he heard her or woke her up and went and got her.  It was so sweet, they were holding hands and sliding down together.  Picture quality is terrible since the lighting on the stairs is not all that great, but you get the idea.  The same thing happened this morning, but when I asked Jase if she was already awake in her room or if he woke her up, he was silent and did not answer.  I told him that is very sweet of him to get her, but not to wake her up again.

I know I've posted on here before how much Ally loves to pick flowers.  I mean, it does not get old to her at all; it is so cute.  And it never fails, after she has picked some flowers she will bring me a handful and say "Happy Valentine's Day".  Just melts my heart.  I picked up a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store yesterday and Ally has just oohed and aahed over them on the kitchen table.  She told me that those flowers are for Mommy and Ally!  You got it girl!
Ally at Jase's baseball practice with her freshly picked flowers!

While we were up in the craft/Lego room this week, Allyson found plenty of things to keep herself preoccupied with, especially when she found the pink curling ribbon!!  She would not stop pulling it off the spool.  I finally had to take it away from her and cut it off the spool to minimize the mess.

Hard to believe that she is over 2 1/2 years now.  My baby girls is getting so big.  Allyson is my little shadow and wants to be with me or in my lap all the time.  Now that I have a good-sized tummy it is getting a little more difficult for her to sit comfortably in my lap.  It will be interesting to see how she reacts when Little Man gets here.  On one hand I think she is going to be jealous of him, then on the other hand she is such a mother hen and I think she will want to help quite a bit.  Four more months and we'll see how this all plays out.
